ASBEN offers two Master's programs in African Studies: M.A. in African Studies - English (with thesis) and M.A. in African Studies - Turkish (with thesis) with the objective of providing a thorough understanding of the political and socioeconomic conditions of African countries. The curriculum of each program is composed of seven courses (three compulsory, four elective) and a seminar, as well as thesis and academic specialization. Furthermore, our students can take regional language courses (e.g. Arabic, French) as extra electives. The application requirements for our programs are announced at ASBÜ and ASBEN websites in June/July.
The candidate must submit a letter of intent (750-1,000 words in English). The letter of intent must be uploaded to the system during the application.
***YDS and e-YDS scores are valid for 5 years.
For foreign (non-Turkish citizen) students, the requirements for application are:
Bachelor's degree (at least 4-year undergraduate program).
Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.30 out of 4.00.
A letter of intent (750-1,000 words in English). The letter must be uploaded to the system during the application.
For MA programs in English (as language of instruction), TOEFL iBT minimum score of 84 (or equivalent, e.g. YDS 80).
100 TL nonrefundable application fee paid to IBAN TR76 0001 2009 4110 0006 0000 14. The program’s annual tuition is 6,000 TL.

Application Calendar and Evaluation

The applications start each year in June/July according to the calendar determined by the Senate of the University. The university website must be followed for the dates of the application calendar.
Applicants are ranked based on an initial evaluation carried out by weighting 50% of ALES score and 50% of GPA. After applications are accepted, a science exam is held on the announced date. The application results are determined by weighting 50% of ALES score, 20% of GPA, and 30% of science exam score. Based on this evaluation, candidates who have earned a score of 65 and above are deemed successful. Successful candidates are ranked according to general evaluation scores.

The evaluation of applications is made by taking into account the acceptance criteria of the program and the international student quota. The evaluation result will be sent to the candidate's e-mail address.
